GP online access is the use of online forms as the preferred route for patients to contact their GP practice
Members of the public can contact their GP practice for non-urgent GP requests during the day, anytime between 8am-6.30pm, by filling out an online form on their GP practice website.
Appointments for the nursing team or pharmacists can be book via the telephone or in person.
All GP practices are required to have their online consultation system available throughout core hours for non-urgent appointment requests, medication queries, and admin requests.
As well as the on-line forms patients can continue to phone or visit the practice in person and speak with our care navigators throughout core hours, 8:30am to 6:30pm and, if necessary, they will help you complete the form.
For those without internet access we have two secure iPads within the waiting area on which patients can complete the on-line triage form themselves. Staff are onsite to offer help to any patient doing this for the first time or needing help.
The GPs prefer that patients undertake this themselves whenever possible,
- giving specific details of their concerns,
- how long it has been an issue,
- Any treatments taken
- What outcome is expected – appointment, phone call, sick note etc.
- If there is a specific clinician, you would prefer to see – although there is no guarantee that this can be accommodated.
If a member of staff needs to complete the form on your behalf, please give as much detail as possible and allow the member of staff time to capture all the relevant details.
Once the GP has triaged the on-line form they will advise on whether you will be offered
- A face to face appointment – this could be with a GP, Paramedic, Pharmacist, Nurse
- A telephone call – again this could be with a clinician from the team not just a GP
- A home visit – if medically appropriate
- Advised to visit a local pharmacy
- Advised to attend A&E
You may also receive advice via text so please ensure that your contact details are up to date.
